Morris Wayne Berrier, 79, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 27, 2020. He was born July 5, 1941, in Forsyth County to G.A. and Gertrude Starbuck Berrier. He graduated from North Davidson High School and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
Morris was a giver, sharing his time and resources with others. He loved people and never met a stranger. His affection was expressed in giving nicknames to family and friends. For years, “Mo” brought joy to many at the holidays as he donned a Santa suit and attentively listened to children and sat patiently for photos. He always had an interesting story to share. He loved singing with “The Joyful Noise,” entertaining and witnessing to others, especially when he could bring a smile to those in nursing and long term care facilities. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and farmer. His easy, contagious laugh will be sorely missed.
A lifetime member of Canaan United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, Morris taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. He leaves a legacy of class members who he challenged to study the Bible and develop their relationship with God. His rewards for faithful service on earth await him in Heaven.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Judy Tuttle Berrier, sons Richard Berrier (April) and Clint Berrier, grandchildren Kristen Crowley, James, Paige and Mason Berrier and great-grandchildren Deacon and Koralynn Crowley. He leaves behind two sisters, Joan Roggenkamp (David), Lou Ann Cheek (Kenneth), sister-in-love Patsy Smith and many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother Mitchell Berrier.
An outdoor memorial service will be held at 2 pm on January 2, 2021, at Canaan United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
