Mr. Morris Willard Townsend, Sr., 60, of Winston-Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 9, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois to Willard and Marilyn Levine Townsend. Morris loved the Lord and his church, Parkland Church, where he served faithfully for the last 19 years. His ministry to the Lord showed in how he helped others. He was the first deaf man to get a CDL License in North Carolina and was the President of the D.T.U. (Deaf Truckers United). He was also an advocate for the deaf community and cared for them deeply. Morris was employed as a CDL driver at Kernersville Dodge/ TMAir. He was a gentle giant who was so helpful to many people. He was a protector of many and always wanted to make sure they were safe and loved. Surviving is his special niece, business partner and interpreter who was like a sister to him, Suzanne Tilley; one son, Morris Townsend, Jr. (Jennifer); a grandson, Logan Townsend; a sister or “Sisma”, Donna Tilley (Steve); two brothers, Louis Townsend (Kim) and Billy Townsend; nieces and nephews, Stephanie Gilley (Gray), Julie Essick (Jon), Taylor Townsend, David Townsend and Amanda Townsend and special great nieces and nephews, Chelsee Morgan, Matthew Bibb, Lauren Locklear, Lindsey Forrest, Caitlin Mabe, Brandon Easter and Cameron Easter. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2022 at Parkland Church with Rev. Steve Tilley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkland Church, 2900 Old Salisbury Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
