Miriam Vernese Litchard (Gilbert) passed away in the early morning of February 3, 2022. Vernese, known as “Topsy” growing up, originally hailed from Angier, NC and always considered that home no matter where she was living at the time. Vernese loved art and enjoyed visiting historic homes and cities. She held herself to higher standards to achieve the ideal she believed represented a proper Southern lady, wife, mother and grandmother. This outlook made her a fine lady who would never back down from saying or doing what she believed. She is predeceased by her brothers Aaron Gilbert and Tommy Gilbert. She is mourned by her four sons Milton, Tom (Wanda), Jim (Corine) and Joe (Kristi); nine grandchildren Dwight, Demarus, Qituvituaq (Loren), Vincent, Annalise, Deanna, Alex, Devon and Wyatt, two great grandchildren Liz and Robert, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Due to the unprecedented circumstances, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to St. Jude’s children’s hospital.
There will be a gathering at the Brick and Mortar restaurant in Angier NC from 11-2 on February 20th followed by a graveside service at Neill’s Creek Baptist Church at 2:30.
