Miranda Kelly Adams

Miranda Jane Kelly Adams (Mandy) of Claremont, NC, died October 10, 2013 at the Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley where she worked as a nurse for over 12 years. She was born in Winston-Salem to Charles Weldon and Esther Jones Kelly. She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School, and attended Western Carolina, Mitchell College, and Appalachian State University. She also worked in her family business, Kelly Office Machines. She received a degree in commercial beekeeping from Ohio State University's Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster, Ohio, where she met her husband, Tad. Mandy and Tad owned and operated Catawba Valley Bee Supply and Honey Company in Lewisville, NC in the 1980's. Mandy was especially interested in queen rearing. Through the years Mandy had many interests; always gardening; raising rabbits, dairy goats, chickens, turkeys and ducks. She loved the outdoors, working outside, and working with her salt water aquariums. In her last months she really enjoyed embroidery. In 1993 Mandy graduated with a Bachelors Degree in nursing from Lenoir Rhyne College. She worked in psychiatry and home health, but found her calling as a nurse for Hospice, visiting patients in their homes, and later working at the inpatient facilities. She enjoyed backpacking, bird watching, cooking, scuba diving, riding her paso fino horses Madonna and Nick. She was preceded in death by her father; her brother, Matt Kelly; and her very beloved pet Chihuahua, Tita. In addition to her husband, Tad, she is survived by her mother; sisters Joelle Kelly, Melissa Adams, and Eliza Woodburn; brother Peter Kelly; Sister-in-law Denise Kelly; nieces and nephews, Joan, Zach, Noah, Jacob, John, Sarah, Eric, Ian, Sean, Rodger Lee, and Margie; special friends, Ann, Liz, Susan, Aimee, and Margaret. She was very active in community service and touched many lives. She leaves behind dogs, Bonnie, Trixie, Sophie and Sheela; eight miniature donkeys; and her rooster, ""Red"" and his flock of girls. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, October 12 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Catawba Valley Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
