Mildred Marie Noah Sheppard was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at age 95, after a brief stay at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born to the late Roy Vestal Noah, Sr. and Mary Houston Smith Noah in Orange County, NC on October 2, 1925. Mildred spent most of her young life caring for her mother, her five brothers, and their home in Mount Airy, NC.
Mildred met her late husband, Richard Stewart Sheppard, in school and later married in April of 1943. Together, they had two children, Mark and Rhonda. After moving to Winston-Salem, Mildred worked for Sara Lee Hosiery, where she retired in 1987 with 40 years of dedicated service. She also retired from selling Mary Kay and baking cakes at age 85.
Mildred was an active member at Mineral Springs Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where she served as President of the Senior Citizens Group and sang in both the Adult and Senior Choirs. She was currently attending Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, where she was a member of the Widows class.
In Mildred's free time, she loved spending time in God's word and read the Bible through many times each year. She also loved to cook, bake cakes, and entertain in her home. She always had a great meal with a delicious dessert for Sunday lunch. Nothing gave her more joy than cooking and serving others; it was a passion in her life.
Mildred was extremely thoughtful, giving, and witty. She was loved by her family and friends, and will be incredibly missed.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sheppard was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Stewart Sheppard; three brothers: Roy V. Noah Jr., Lawrence Noah, and Harold Noah. She is survived by her son, Mark Sheppard; daughter, Rhonda Pepper (Kent); grandson, Trent Carter (Michelle); and two brothers, Wayne Noah (Betty) and Burchell Noah (Lucy).
A private funeral service will be held for the family. Friends are welcome to attend the graveside service at Crestview Memorial Park 3:00 PM Friday, April 2, with the Rev. John Holmes officiating.
