Mildred Leftwich Rhyne

PFAFFTOWN, NC-Ms. Mildred Eva Leftwich Rhyne, 87, of Pfafftown, NC, passed away peacefully early in the morning of Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Servant of God, Well Done The Battle's Fought, The Race is won. She was born on June 22, 1927 to William Bryan and Dillie Peneatta Leonard Leftwich in Gladeville, Virginia. Her family moved to Winston-Salem in 1933. Mildred was always happy to say that she was a charter member of Pfafftown Baptist Church on Transou Road. She was a member on October 22, 1961 when this mission was known as the ""Elkin Highway Chapel,"" meeting at the Old Richmond Grange Hall. The name was later changed to Immanuel Baptist Church, before becoming Pfafftown Baptist Church. She loved serving her Lord doing all she could for the Church and its members. Mildred attended school at the old Mineral Springs School, she retired from Baptist Hospital after 18 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Lindsey, sisters, Lillian Leftwich Piland, Ruby Leftwich Robertson and Naoma Leftwich Jones. She is survived by three sons, Don Rhyne and wife, Janet of Winston-Salem, Phil Rhyne and wife, JoAnn of Glendale Springs, NC, and Tim Rhyne and wife, Leslyn of Wytheville, VA; five grandchildren, Kristin Rhyne of Winston-Salem, John Rhyne and wife, Sara of Mocksville, NC, Jill Browne of Apex, NC, Amanda Rhyne of Newport, VA and Ben Rhyne of Wytheville, VA; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Nora and Johnsie Rhyne, all of Mocksville, NC, Elena and Mason Browne of Apex, NC; a very wonderful and special friend, Mrs. Zella Johnson; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Bob McCaskill officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home who gave her comfort in her last days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mildred Leftwich Rhyne to Gladeville United Methodist Church, 103 Cranberry Rd., Galax, VA 24333.
