Mildred Grace Rash, 93, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023. She was born January 5, 1930, in Johnson City, TN to the late Houston Sharp Blevins and Ruth Greene Blevins. Mrs. Rash had a heart for missions and spent most of her life sharing with others the wonderful story of Jesus and His sacrifice for our salvation. After retirement, she spent many summers in China and Kenya teaching English to young Chinese teachers while also sharing her belief in Jesus. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church. At Calvary, she was involved in many things, including teaching Sunday School & ESL and volunteering for Prison Ministries. Mildred retired from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System, namely, Reynolds High School with 29 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Audrey Welch and Joan Campbell and brother, Wayne Blevins. Mildred is survived by three children: Barbara VanAntwerp, Melissa Whisnant (Greg), and Michael Rash; five grandchildren: Rebecca, Jim (Rhonda), Baker, Margot, and Tyler (Kellie); four great-grandchildren: Xavier, Maggie Sue, Colton, and Lucy; sister, Joyce Campbell (NT); and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 20th at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Dr. Gary Chapman officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thank you and is deeply grateful to the staff of Brookridge Retirement Home, Brighton Gardens, and Trellis Supportive care for their loving and affectionate care of Mrs. Rash.
In lieu of flower, memorials may be made to the Missions Ministry, Calvary Baptist Church, 134 S Peace Haven Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
