Mildred Gail Souther Hankins

Mrs. Mildred Gail Souther Hankins, 83, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Dementia. She was born June 26, 1932 to Nancy Jane Hayes Souther and Joshua Andrew Souther in North Wilkesboro, NC where she grew up and attended nursing school. Mildred devoted her career as a Registered Nurse to the care of the elderly, retiring from Hill Haven nursing home in Walnut Cove, NC after 25 years of service. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Evan Souther and Earl Souther; and one sister, Ina Souther Easley. Mildred is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Tony Merritt, along with their children, Brady, Dylan, and Jeb Hedgecock and Alanna Merritt. She is also survived by a daughter, Donna Hankins, and her children, Michael Mullins and Daniel and David Linnenkamp. Surviving as well are one sister, Mrs. Alma Kale, and several nieces and nephews. Mildred will be laid to rest beside her parents in her beloved Wilkes County. The graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 23 at Lewis Baptist Church Cemetery, 2190 Old Salisbury Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
