Michael Craig White

Michael Craig White, 57, of Winston-Salem went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 19, 2010. Michael, the son of Charles E. and Vallie W. White was born August 19, 1952 in Surry County. His father preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Debra L. White; three sons, Thomas White (Rene) of Duncanville, TX, Daniel White of Lanesa, TX and Scott White of Cedar Rapids, IA; and eight precious grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind his mother, Vallie W. White; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Gary Anderson of Grafton, OH; and a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Carol White of Mt. Airy. He also leaves his much loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and extended family. Michael graduated from North Forsyth High. He served in the US Air Force, retiring after 20 years with the rank of Technical Sergeant. As a NCO he served over Squadron Operations in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm with the Seventeenth Air Force Division. Michael always loved music, especially the gospel songs of the Church. At the time of his death Michael was a member of Grace Baptist Temple in Winston-Salem. He will be remembered for his faith and courage as he fought and then finally succumbed to the ravages of cancer. Some would say cancer claimed another life this week. We would say, ""Cancer does not corrode faith, shatter hope, silence courage, invade the soul, kill friendship, conquer the spirit, cripple love, suppress memories, or steal eternal life."" He often quoted, Phil. 4:11 ""For I have learned that in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."" Michael's family will receive friends Thursday night, July 22 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. There will be a short visitation on Friday, July 23 at 10 a.m. at Fairview Baptist Church in Dobson prior to the funeral at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Gary Anderson, Dr. Andy Atkins and Pastor Ed Sears officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Michael's name to Forsyth Medical Center, Palliative Care Unit, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
