Michael Wayne Turner

KERNERSVILLE - Michael Wayne Turner, 60, went home to be with the Lord Thursday March 14, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born July 30, 1952 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Elkin, NC to the late Billy Wagoner Turner and Mildred Sue Walker Turner of Yadkin County. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the US Army Special Forces and was a Vietnam Veteran. On April 3, 1976 he married Dorothy Frances Cox, his childhood sweetheart. On Thursday April 3, 1958 he realized his need to be saved and ask the Lord Jesus Christ to be his Lord and Savior. His father involved him in the Bus Ministry, before it was ever organized, in February 1958 in an old panel bread truck. He has taught Sunday School, sung in the choir, worked in the Bus Ministry as a driver and Bus Captain until his health failed him. He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Wagoner Turner; mother, Mildred Sue Walker Turner and brother Billy Wagoner Turner, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dorothy Frances Cox Turner of the home; two sons, Michael Wayne Turner, Jr. (Jennifer) of Kingsport, TN; and Stephen William Turner (Keisha) of Kernersville; two grandsons, Micah Clifton Turner and Trenton Ryan Turner of Kingsport, TN; two step grandchildren, Kaleb and Blake Brown of Kernersville; one ""Special"" daughter, Evon Avorkliya; a brother Andy Wade Turner (Angie) of High Point; and the widow of Billy, Jr., Lisa Lynn Fagg Turner of Kernersville; and many Great Aunts, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson, Dr. Steve Roberson and Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Entombment will follow at Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Walkertown. Family will receive friends on Monday, March 18, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gospel Light Baptist Church.
