Michael Edward O'Brien

Michael Edward O'Brien, 58, formerly of Long Island, New York and previously of Winston-Salem passed away on Friday, February 8th. He was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, and husband who loved life and lived it to the fullest. Michael is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Evelyn O'Brien of Winston-Salem. He is survived by his wife Tammy O'Brien, and daughters Jennifer O'Brien and Jessica O'Brien, all of Winston Salem. In addition, he is survived by three brothers, Eddie O'Brien of Winston-Salem, Tommy O'Brien of Mooresville, and Jimmy O'Brien (Anderson) of Columbia, SC, and one sister, Susan Davis (Michael) of Tobaccoville as well as nieces and nephews Patrick O'Brien of Charlotte, and Kellie and Ryan Davis of Tobaccoville. As an avid sports enthusiast, Michael enjoyed watching his oldest daughter coach basketball at Davie High School and cheering on his nephew at football games. He was also a lover of music and talented guitar player and singer, so much that this inspired the topic of his youngest daughter's college admission essay. Michael attended Friends Academy in Locust Valley, New York and later went on play collegiate football and baseball at Hofstra University and University of Tampa. After college, Michael served his country in the United Stated Army where he was stationed in Europe for four years. After his time in the Army, Michael settled down in Commack, NY where he began his own family. There wasn't much that Michael couldn't fix, be it laying carpet or hanging drywall, and he often took on these tasks as favors of good will for others. His infectious laugh and unique dance moves could lift anyone's spirits, especially while working with his siblings in the kitchen at his brother's deli. Michael never met a stranger and ""knew a buddy"" from every aspect of his life. Many people will remember him for his quick wit and humor and humbling persona. He would go without just to make sure his family and friends were always taken care of. Michael's spirit and memory will not be forgotten. A memorial service will be held 7:00pm Monday, February 11,2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Pastor David Gilbreth officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
