Michael "Mike" Morales passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Mike was always known to his friends for his fun, outgoing nature, his quick, witty humor, and his never-ending willingness to help his fellow man in need. Mike was an avid Cribbage player, attending weekly games with fellow fans for many years, prior to becoming ill. Mike was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 5, 1947, to Michael S. Morales and Eileen N. Morales. He grew up with two younger brothers, Martin, and Thomas. When he was 18, he joined the Air Force and served our country in many places across the globe. He met his love in the Air Force and married Betty Jean Shouse on March 20, 1970. They had two sons: Marcus, born in Taiwan, and Christopher, born in Colorado Springs, while serving. Michael was a Tech Sergeant in Communications and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal while in the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1986. He then went to work for the Department of Veterans' Affairs. Mike was awarded North Carolina honor, the Long Leaf Pine Award, for his dedication to the veterans of North Carolina and retired from there in 2007. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and was elated upon their 2016 World Series Victory. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Eileen. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of more than 50 years, Betty Jean Morales; two sons, Marcus of Phoenix, AZ, and Christopher (Meredith) of Thomasville, NC; one precious granddaughter that was his pride and joy, Maebri; and brother, Thomas (Linda) of Dyer, IN. Those who knew Mike were never without a smile in his presence. His laughter, humor, and joy were contagious. He is a precious soul who will be missed by so many.
