Michael Dean Mayes

Mr. Michael Dean Mayes, 66, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023.  He was born December 20, 1956, in Forsyth County to the late George Bryant Mayes and Martha Haynes Mayes. 

Mike was always there for family, friends, or even a stranger. Ready to help anyone at any anytime no matter what he had going on. A true jack-of-all-trades but his main skill was welding. He worked hard for many years to support his family and had just recently retired. He loved to hunt and be outdoors whenever possible. Otherwise, you would find him with family or his beloved dogs. He loved with his whole heart and was a truly selfless soul.

In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by his daughter, Yvonne McElroy and grandson, Nathan Combs.  He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Mayes; three children: Nicholas Mayes (Laura), Teresa Smith (Dathan), Jason Billings; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Mayes (Jennifer) and Terry Mayes (Dawn); sister, Angela Leonard (George); four nieces; eight nephews; and mother-in-law, Phyllis Tuttle Merrell. 

A funeral service will he conducted 2:00 PM Friday, September 1^st at Canaan United Methodist Church with Pastor Jay Bowers officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, August 31^st at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
