Michael Duane Hodowansky, 72, of Clemmons, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Michael was born in Hudson, New York on May 11, 1946 to the late Michael and Ruth Leahy Hodowansky. In 1967, Michael married the love of his life, Carol Mueller. They recently celebrated their fifty-first wedding Anniversary. He will be greatly missed by his wife and daughters, Kim Boyles (Scott) of Clemmons and Amy Sessoms (Jeff) of Advance and his six grandchildren; Meghan Boyles of Atlanta, Nicholas Boyles of Winston-Salem, Madison Boyles of Clemmons, and Logan Sessoms, Morgan Sessoms, and Colton Sessoms of Advance. Michael is also survived by his sister Mary Jane Haywood (Lesley), his mother-in-law Hilda Mueller, and several nieces and nephews from Hudson, New York. Michael was a very loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and all activities. His contagious sense of humor was immeasurable. He loved joking around and making his family and friends laugh. In his own words Mike told his priest, “When I pass I will be God’s jester in heaven.” There’s no doubt that he is doing just that. Michael enjoyed his summer beach trips and vacations with family, spending time in the mountains, and visiting the Cherokee Casino. His favorite pastimes were playing golf, watching the New York Yankees and Panthers games and driving his Mustang. He will forever be in our hearts. Michael proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Military Police. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force, Mike enjoyed an extended career in the trucking industry as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Pilot Freight Carriers. His jobs relocated him to Nebraska and Pennsylvania before finally locating to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Later, his career path led him to the computer industry where he worked as General Manager and President of Key Services where he retired in 2011. Through his working career many of Mike’s customers became personal friends. A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, October 5, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church by Father Peter Nouck. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 4820 Kinnamon Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Ln. Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
