Michael Franklin Hilton

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH - Michael Franklin Hilton, 71, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Michael was born on September 7, 1942 in Mecklenburg County to Willis Franklin and Dessie Beacham Hilton. He was a veteran of the US Marines serving four years in Active Duty and two years of Reserves. Michael was an Elder for Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church and attended Barefoot Community Church in SC. Michael retired after 30 years of service from Consolidated Freightways. Following retirement, he moved to Myrtle Beach and owned / operated Callie Bakers Road House with his sister. Michael later worked for Bass Pro Shop, earning Employee of the Year Award and then took a position with Cherry Grove Fishing Pier.

Michael was devoted to his family, enjoyed reading and shared his love of sports by coaching all of his children in baseball, softball and football.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carlos Cooley.

Surviving are his wife, Joy McKee Hilton; three children, Jennifer Elliott (husband, Britt), Chris Hilton (wife, Chrissy) and Brian Hilton (wife, Misty); six grandchildren, Joshua Hilton, Callie Wood, Evan and Noah Elliott, Oliver and Adele Hilton; four step grandchildren, Laci Cease, Alex Bangerter, Hope and Gray Hart; two great grandchildren, Mason and Zion Hilton; one brother, Robert ""Buzz"" Hilton (Pat); one sister Debbie Breyare (Richard); two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Monteith (Don) and Elizabeth Bolick (Leon); and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor David Cloer officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the funeral home and other times at the home of Britt and Jenny Elliott.
