Michael 'Mike' O'Neal Hampton

KERNERSVILLE - Michael O'Neal Hampton, 73, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012. He was born July 1, 1938 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late William Wade and Nola O'Neal Hampton. Mike graduated from Gray High School and worked at RJ Reynolds in Research and Development. In 1970, he began a 42-year career in real estate. Starting as Sales Manager for Pope Realty Company, Mike later opened his own real estate company, Hampton-Voss Realtors, that he owned and operated until the time of his death. He was an active member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, where he served in many leadership roles. Mike was also a dedicated member of the Kernersville Civitan Club, where he most recently received an award for 44 years of perfect attendance. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Martin Hampton, of the home; a sister, Ann Hampton Trent, of Panama City Beach, FL; a daughter, Michelle Hampton Edwards (husband, Chuck), of Kernersville; stepchildren, Robyn Roberts (husband, Jeff) of Greensboro, Lisa Pfefferkorn (husband, Rick) of Winston-Salem, and Chris Woodward (wife, Kathy) of Kernersville; seven grandchildren, Trent and Blaire Edwards, Marisa Shoaf, Ryan Roberts, Andrew and Olivia Woodward, and Cole Andrews. A funeral service will be held 4:00 pm, Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Cash and Rev. Kin Wah Tang officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 pm Monday, April 2, 2012 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Mebea Aklilu, Dr. Matt Graham and Hospice nurse, Theresa Gatewood, for their special care for Mike.
