Michael James Gilliland

KERNERSVILLE- Michael James Gilliland known by his friends as ""Big Mike"", 42, woke up Sunday morning, August 17, 2014 with all of Heaven welcoming him in. He was the loving son to Catherine Gilliland and the former Richard Gilliland of Kernersville. He also had a very special person in his life Joe Turano of Kernersville whom he called ""DaDa"".

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his brother, Jason Gilliland; grandparents, Richard and Helen Gilliland; and a Granddaddy, ""the apple of his eye"", James Frank, and Pearl Ranson whom he called ""Granny""

Surviving are his wife whom he loved with all his heart and she him, Janice Hoppe Gilliland; daughter whom he was so proud of, Kyndall Gilliland; three step-children, Cody, Caleb and Erin; three special children in ""Big Mike's life was his little Jordan who loved him unconditionally and her brothers Daton and Gerran; brother, Rick Gilliland and wife, Kelly of Pamplin, VA; two people in Big Mike's life whom he called ""brother"" were Keith Weiss and Mike ""Yank"" Jones who were always at his beck and call; three nieces, Catherine, Caitlin, and Rachael Gilliland; and a nephew, Matthew Gilliland.

""Big Mike"" was known and loved by so many people and served his Lord everyday by serving and helping others.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.

Big Mike's wishes will be carried out by taking his ashes to his Granddaddy Jim's farm in Virginia where he spent so many of his childhood days and a place where he had such special memories.

In lieu of flowers Big Mike's passion was feeding the homeless or helping someone less fortunate, so if anyone would like to do anything in his memory please pay it forward!
