Mr. Michael Guy Callison, 72, passed away peacefully at Forsyth Medical Center on October 2, 2024. He was born on October 3, 1951, in Knoxville, TN to Alfred Guy Callison and Mary Wallace Callison.
Michael was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Mt. Tabor High School in 1969. He began college at Gardner-Webb University. After a short time, he moved back to Winston-Salem, and he transferred to Guilford College. He graduated and began his career as a CPA with Bruce Hall and Company. Here he met Porter Gray. Michael and Porter left together to start Gray Callison and Company as partners. He was very passionate about his career, and was known for his expertise and integrity. Michael was trusted by all his clients; they were his main priority. He went on to have many friendships with his clients and their descendants.
In the early 90’s, Michael and his wife Sandy joined Pine Brook Country Club. Mike loved golf. After tax season was over, Michael could often be found at the golf course. He was a great wordsmith; he completed the daily crossword in the local newspaper and the New York Times. Mike and his mom enjoyed working the crosswords together and with such proficiency they would use ink. As his health declined, he was unable to spend as much time at the golf course. He instead, spent his days reading. He couldn’t buy books fast enough. He was a voracious reader. He mostly enjoyed mystery and espionage books.
Mike was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Callison, his parents, and his brother Gregory Frank Callison.
He is survived by his wife Sandy Callison, and his stepson Brian (Eric Sauder) Hawley, his daughter Angela Callison (Chris) McLeod, her children Stephanie (Chase) Comer, and their children Nickolas and Dawson, and her son Spencer (Kaleigh) McLeod, and sisters Patty (Doug) Chidester, Tracy (Eric) Hoffman. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael was very proud of his daughter Angela, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the nurses and doctors at Forsyth Medical Center. He will be dearly missed by all his family, friends, clients, and puppies.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 12, 2024, at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church at 11am. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hurricane Helene Relief Funds, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or any charity of your choosing.
