Michael 'Mike' Barry Burroughs

Mr. Michael ""Mike"" Barry Burroughs, 54, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 at his home. Mike was born in Florence, SC on October 4, 1957 the son of Roland Kendall Burroughs and Bobbie Hyman Burroughs. Mike was a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was currently a Master Deputy with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department currently assigned to the Town of Rural Hall and has worked in law enforcement for the last 28 years. Mike was also the chaplain of the American Legion Riders and The Sons of American Legion. He lived life to the fullest and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Roland Kendall Burroughs. Mike is survived by his wife Cathy Shumate Burroughs, two sons, Jamie Collins and Chris Collins (Donna), 7 grandchildren that adored their ""Granddaddy"", his mother, Bobbie Burroughs, a sister, Debbie Burroughs Siler (Steve) and a brother, Scott Burroughs (Ruthie). Mike is also survived by a niece, Ashley Siler Marshall (Matt), a nephew, Kevin Siler (Emilie) and a great-nephew, Brycen. Funeral service for Mike will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall with Rev. Tim Gammons officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 p.m. this evening Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
