Michael Rocean Black

Mr. Michael Rocean Black of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the age of 24. He was born an only child in Kingston, Jamaica on October 7, 1999, to the late Mr. Michael Fitzgerald Black and Ms. Marcia “Sharon” Simms. Michael was an avid gamer; he was almost always found sitting behind his computer. Beyond that, he was also very intelligent and gifted when it came to his education. To others, he was very helpful. He was known as his mother’s “right hand man.” In addition to his father, he was preceded in passing by his grandmother, Monica Baccus. To continue Michael’s legacy of love, surviving him are his mother, Marcia “Sharon” Simms; a sister, Cherice Peynado; many aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as his special gamer friends. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Francis Smith officiating. There will be a reception in the Robert F. Miller Center following the service.
