Kernersville-Mr. Merritt ""Lee"" Galloway 78, went to be with the Lord Saturday May 16, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Palliative Care Unit. Mr. Galloway was born in Jackson County, NC to the late Merritt M and Elva Owen Galloway. He was a Korean Army veteran, retired Driver for ABF trucking and was of the Baptist faith. Lee loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He was most of all a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty M. ""Vel"" Galloway and one son Mike Raines. Two brothers Donnell and Kermit and one sister Edith. Lee leaves to cherish his memories one daughter; Ann Raines of the home and her companion Lloyd Foster of Clemmons; one son Keith Raines, High Point; two sisters Darlene Mullins of Winston Salem, Alberta Galloway of Brevard; two grandchildren; Zeb Raines, Chris Raines and wife Wendy; great granddaughter Scarlette Raines; Numerous nieces and nephews; and his canine companion Taz. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday May 20, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Wayne Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetery, Kernersville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
