Mrs. Meris Carolyn Teague Gormley, 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, August 5, 2022 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 8, 1935 in Forsyth County to James Clifton Teague and Hettie Irene Atkins Teague. She grew up in Winston Salem and graduated from Glenn High School where she was a cheerleader. She met her husband, Art, while working at Western Electric and they married in 1961. They moved to Pennsylvania and then California, where they raised their family, before moving back to Winston Salem in 1987. Mrs. Gormley was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many positions of leadership in Winston Salem, as well as in California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur John Gormley, Sr., two brothers, James Teague and Robert Teague, and her stepson, John H. Gormley (Lynne). Surviving are her three children, Arthur John Gormley, Jr., James Christopher Gormley and Adrienne Gormley Shumate, stepdaughter, Sheree Gormley; seven grandchildren, Logan Lineberry, Grant Shumate, Spencer Shumate, Owen Shumate, Liam Sullivan, Aron Dillon and Kennedy Dillon; one great granddaughter, Evelyn Meris Lineberry; her sister, Sylvia Janice Tedder, and many nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was an example of unconditional love to those who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 2:00 pm, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4780 Westchester Road, Winston Salem, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
