Melvin Lester Kite

WINSTON-SALEM, NC-Mr. Melvin Lester Kite, 73, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. Melvin was born on September 4, 1941 in Forsyth County, NC to Lester Dayton Kite and Zella Virginia Welch Kite. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Kite owned and operated Kite and Son Masonry Company for the past 45 years. Melvin loved to work on vintage cars and loved to restore them as well. He especially loved his 69 Ford Torino GT which he gave to his son. Melvin was also a talented master woodworking craftsman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dayton Kite. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lana Davis Kite of the home; two daughters, Kathy Vernon and husband Reid of Portland, TN and Donna Hunt and husband Rollie of East Bend, NC; one son, James Kite and wife Christy of Kernersville, NC; four grandchildren, Brian Hunt, Matthew Hunt, Jessica Vernon, and Christopher Vernon; a beloved nephew, Johnny Kite and wife Mary; and one sister, Carolyn Williams and husband Rodney of Lewisville, NC. Funeral services for Mr. Kite will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Robbie Sizemore officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
