Mr. Melvin Henry Cook, 80, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born July 23, 1934 in Forsyth County. Mr. Cook retired from Western Electric and was a member of Marshall Baptist Church. He was inducted into the NC Softball Hall of Fame. Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Fouts Cook Reid; his father, Henry Monroe Cook; and an infant sister, Margaret Cook. He is survived by three children: Randy Cook, David Cook (Karen), and Melva Williams (Randy); four grandchildren: Amber Harris, Cameron Cook, Andy and Mason Blackburn; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Carolyn Cox; and one brother, Jim Cook; and also, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7 at Marshall Baptist Church with the Rev. John Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
