On April 17, 2024, Melissa Hester Smith, known affectionately as "Issa," peacefully departed this world, embraced by a room filled beyond its capacity with loving friends and family.

 Melissa's life was a tapestry of talents, and her heart overflowed with compassion. She had a deep love for animals, never hesitating to welcome a stray into her care. A gifted gardener and culinary enthusiast, Melissa's creativity shone in all she did. Her unwavering love as a wife, mother, and grandmother were testaments to her character. Those fortunate enough to know Melissa were enveloped in her love and felt truly cherished.

In her passing, Melissa leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to resonate. She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Stan Smith; her three daughters, Emily Smith, Lauren Carter (Michael Carter), and Madelyn Smith; her three adoring grandchildren, Hudson, Samantha, and Gavin Carter; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of loving friends. Among those friends, she leaves behind several individuals who considered her to be like a mother to them, a testament to her remarkable ability to connect deeply with everyone she met. Known for her fun-loving and vivacious spirit, Melissa's influence on those who knew her will remain everlasting.

'Afterglow'

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;

Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
