LEXINGTON-Melissa Rierson Loftin, 29, a committed wife, dedicated mother, loving daughter, sister and loyal friend, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, March 15, 2011. Born October 20, 1981, Melissa had attended Gospel Light Christian School in Walkertown and was a member of First Christian Church in Kernersville. She was a competitive dancer with Dance Unlimited in Kernersville, a beautiful vocalist and accomplished pianist. She participated in and won numerous local and state beauty pageants, rode motorcycles, and adored shopping. A former employee of QMF Metal & Electronic Solutions in Kernersville, Melissa left the family business to pursue a career in motherhood. She had also established herself as a successful Designer Leader with Premier Jewelry. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Carolyn Richardson; grandfather, Herman Allen ""Punk"" Hubbard; and a very special grandfather, Roy M. Rierson whom she affectionately called ""Pop"". Melissa is survived by her husband, Brian Loftin and son Carson of Lexington; mother, Tina Rierson of Kernersville; father, Clarence Rierson of Walnut Cove; grandmother, Mamie B. Rierson of Kernersville; sister, Candice Rierson McNeill, her husband Darrin and daughter, Autumn of Kernersville; brother, Brian Rierson and his partner, Jason Johnson of Winston-Salem. Known for her contagious smile, loyalty, sweet spirit, and generosity, she was adored by her family and friends, her Premier Jewelry family, the #23 Brian Loftin Racing team, and the entire NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Racing community. As news quickly spread of her passing, Melissa's Facebook page was filled with condolences and special messages from friends, family, and even strangers. She was truly an inspiration. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2011 at First Christian Church in Kernersville with the Dr. Pete Kunkle officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-9:00 PM Friday, March 18, 2011 at First Christian Church. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Loftin family. In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Melissa Rierson Loftin Memorial Fund at First Citizens Bank to assist Carson's future education.
