Medea Spainhour Cardwell

Mrs. Medea Spainhour Cardwell, 90, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Brighton Gardens Nursing Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Stokes Co. on October 31, 1919 the daughter of the late Oscar Lee Spainhour and Nannie Ethel White Spainhour. Mrs. Cardwell was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women. She retired from AT&T and Hanes Hosiery and in addition to her career, she enjoyed being a homemaker and working in her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Spencer Burrow; her second husband, William Cardwell; five brothers; two sisters; and a granddaughter, Michelle Johnson. Mrs. Cardwell is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Gordon and husband Jack of Winston-Salem, Peggy Johnson and husband Barry of High Point and Carol Doss and husband Steve of Winston-Salem; one son, Stephen Burrow and wife Reta of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Estelle Pope of Kernersville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Cardwell will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Lori Anne Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening, October 8, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family expresses our thanks and gratitude to the staff of Brighton Gardens for their loving care and concern for our mother during the past two years.
