Mazelle Brown

OAK RIDGE - Mazelle Hughes Brown, 89, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Countryside Village Retirement Center. Mazelle was born on October 14, 1928 in Davidson County to Grady and Fleta Hughes. She retired after 30 years of service from Guilford Mills. Mazelle loved her family and loved to work in her flowers. She was also an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Mazelle collected costume jewelry and baseball cards, which enhanced her yard sale enthusiasm! Kit Kats and Chocolate/Vanilla Swirl ice cream were among her favorite treats!
In addition to her parents, Mazelle was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Brown, a sister, Bernice Trotter; and son-in-law, Larry Hicks.
Surviving are her daughter, Nicki Hicks; two granddaughters, Kelly McDonald (Glenn) and Robin Holland (Steven); and three great grandchildren, Stevie Holland, Grayson McDonald and Travis McDonald.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Bill Ellison officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Mazelle's caregivers, Norma, Dawn, Virginia, Peggy, and Nancy, for their love and dedication to her; as well as the staff at Countryside Village for their care for the past two weeks.
