Maxine Pitts Stewart

Mrs. Maxine Pitts Stewart, 94, passed away June 23, 2013 at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born June 11, 1919 in Forsyth County to the late Emerson Walter Pitts, Sr. and Phoebe Odessa Smith Pitts. Mrs. Stewart was a member of Friedland Moravian Church. In 1937 she married the love of her life, John Foster Stewart at Kernersville Moravian Church and began her life journey of being a loving and devoted wife and dedicated mother. In 1987, she and her husband celebrated their 50 year anniversary by renewing their marriage vows at Friedland Moravian Church. She cherished the role of being a faithful wife and caregiver for her family and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all that knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Foster Stewart, a grandson, James Wiley Stewart, and a brother, Thomas J. Pitts. She is survived by her two sons, John Wiley Stewart and wife Patricia of Winston-Salem and Terry Lewis Stewart and wife Lynn of Clemmons; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Pitts of Winston-Salem and a brother, Emerson W. Pitts of Ennice. A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Friedland Moravian Church with the Rev. David Merritt and the Rev. Carol Foltz officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Friedland Moravian Church, 2750 Friedland Church Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
