Maxine Brown Johnson

Maxine Brown Johnson, 93, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015. She was born in Yadkin County on August 26, 1921. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ila Speer Brown and Alex Brown; her husband of 50 years, Dallas Odell Johnson; two sons, Clay and Mark Johnson; and two sisters, Bea Goodman and Nancy Brown. Surviving are three sisters: Kathryn Mahaffey and Nell Holcomb (J.C.) both of Winston-Salem and Ouida Brown of Greensboro; two sons, Jerry R. Johnson, Sr. (Connie) and Craig S. Johnson (Susan); one daughter, Cheryl Jacobs and her gun bearer, Dr. Walt Blackman; two granddaughters, Wendy Ratledge (Paul) and Jennifer Johnson; two grandsons, Ron Johnson and Justin Johnson; and one very special lifelong friend, Frances Highfill. She was a member of Hope Moravian Church for most of her adult life and treasured each and every friend in the congregation. Services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at Hope Moravian Church, 2759 Hope Church Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127 with visitation starting at 2:00pm, on January 5, 2015 followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Moravian Church, 2759 Hope Church Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or to the Sunnyside Ministry, 319 Haled St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or to the hospice of your choice. The family would like to thank the caregivers from hospice, Belinda James, R.N. and Carol Hicks, C.N.A., as well as her dedicated friends, Sherry Simmons, Dottie Widener and Betty Simmons.
