Maxine V. Easter, 102, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away at Homestead Hills on Friday, July 15, 2022. She was born on August 31st, 1919, in Huntington, West Virginia, to the late Edward Lee Easter and Dorothy Nowlin Easter.
Maxine took much pride in her enlistment in the US Military, serving a total of 22 years. From 1942 to 1948, Maxine served in the Army, and from 1956 to 1972, she served in the Navy where she then retired as a commander. In 1952, Maxine received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from UNC Chapel Hill. She was also a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Lee Easter and Dorothy Nowlin Easter, of Pfafftown, NC; 2 sisters, Lois Royall and Dorothy Moore; and 2 brothers, Winfred Easter and Edwin M. Easter. Maxine’s surviving family members include her brother, Ray Newman Easter of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
A memorial service will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Sunday, July 24th, 2022, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 24, 2022.
A private inurnment will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date.
