Mr. Maxie Vandon Rowell, Sr., 72, of Lexington passed away Monday, January 5, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born February 16, 1936 in Aynor, SC to William F. and Ruth Ellis Rowell. Mr. Rowell was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was with the Arcadia Fire Department for 30 years and part-time at Midway Fire Department. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 30 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Cecile (Bee) Rowell of the home; two sons, Maxie V. Rowell, Jr. and wife Diane of Lexington, William L. Rowell and wife Debbie of Columbia, SC; a daughter, Tonya Rowell of Lexington; four grandsons, Daniel Lee Smith and Sara Jane Glovier, Bradley Eugene Wright and wife Andrea, Derrick Rowell and Noah Rowell; a great granddaughter, Ashlyn Nicole Wright; three sisters, Dione Sauls and husband Thurman, Sarah Ruth Watson and husband Maxey, and Wilma Ellis Morris and husband Leonard, all of SC; a brother, James E. Rowell and wife Jane; an aunt, Mabel Bullard; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 8 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplain Kelly Forrest and the Rev. Ronnie Walser officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons with military rites by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Lexington Dialysis Center for their loving care and support.
