Max Franklin Murray

Mr. Max Franklin Murray, age 77 of Winston-Salem passed away Monday evening January 18, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Murray was born in Catawba County, September 22, 1932 to the late Lambert Wesley Murray, Sr. and the late Annie Lee Buchanan Murray. He was a member of Beck's Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Mr. Murray was a deacon of the church for many years and served on several church committees. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army in 1955. In 1999 he retired as a barber from Old Town Barber Shop in Oldtown, In addition to his parents Mr. Murray was preceded in death by two brothers; Lambert Wesley Murray, Jr. and Harold Dean Murray. Surviving are his wife of 57 years; Nellie S. Murray of the home. Two daughters; Dreama M. (Gary) Allred of Kernersville and Sandra M. (Roger) Hull of Pfafftown. One son; Alan Dale Murray of Tobaccoville. Two grandchildren; Amy Hughes and Perry Simmons. One great grandchild; Cannon. Two sisters: Helen Gantt and Phyllis Shook both of Claremont, NC. One brother; Kenneth (Betty) Murray of Catawba, NC. Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon January 21, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Beck's Baptist Church in Winston-Salem by Dr. Karl Minor and Dr. Ray Hamilton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military burial rites will be conducted by the King American Legion Post 290. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Beck's Baptist Church, 5505 Becks Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
