Mavis L. Shelton

Mavis L. Shelton, 81, passed away Friday, March 5, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem . Mavis was born on March 7, 1928 in Washington , Virginia to the late Scott and Emma Smith Litton. She was a member of Union Ridge UMC for 15 years, enjoyed trips to the beach and loved to decorate, garden and shop. In addition to her parents, Mavis was preceded in death by her son, Ralph Douglas Shelton, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ralph Shelton, of the home; two granddaughters, Wesley S. Austin (Dirk) of Taylorsville and Poppi S. Welborn (Ray) of Wilkesboro; four great-grandchildren, Caleb and Cohen Austin and Bryson and Brenyn Welborn; and a daughter-in-law, Susan J. Shelton. A graveside service will be held 2:00pm Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem with the Rev. Gary Elrod officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
