Maurice ""Smitty"" Samuel Smith, 87, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Springwood Care. Mr. Smith was born in White County, Illinois on November 14, 1923 to Charles Samuel and Vernice Mae Rippy Smith. He was of the Methodist faith and was a veteran of WWII in the United States Navy serving on the USS Stingray, the USS McConnell, and the USS Grouper. He was retired from AT&T and Western Electric with 43 years of loyal service. He loved hunting, fishing and loved to play golf. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen B. Smith and one sister A.D. Hubele. He is survived by one daughther, Sara Keville and husband Howard of Advance; two sons, Jeffrey Smith and wife Cindy of Wilkesboro; and Paul Smith and wife LuAnn of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Teresa Smith; and one brother-in-law, Craig Hubele of Indiana. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 6:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 prior to the services.
