Winston-Salem - On April 24, 2013, Heaven opened its doors very wide for Mother Maudie to cross peacefully over to the other side. For 97 years she graced this wonderful earthâ¦four children she did birth. Sonny Vannoy (Joy), of Glendale Springs, happens to be her only son. Jo Anne North Goetz (Milt) was her oldest one. Peggy Hawkins (Paul) was a treasure, indeed. And Rita Taylor (Dennis) gave Maudie a grandchild, which she did need. Grandchild Heather Lambert Busher (Sean) was the ""apple"" of Maudie's eye and to the rest of the family, no one will deny. Great grandchild, Mirabelle Lark Busher brought much joy to Maudie's life it seems. Mirabelle touched Maudie's nose and she did gleam. A wonderful mother-in-law she happened to be, Joy attests to that you see. Maudie's small mountain community, Oval, fortified her along the way. With respect and pride in her family every single day. Death claimed Rita in October of last year. So now Mother Maudie is with Rita, whom she held oh so dear. Six Cole brothers (Onnie, Glenn, Clyde, Walter, Edgar and I.J. went on ahead, and with her parents, Dave and Laura Cole await her earthly body to shed. One sister, Ruth Barney also awaits her coming in Heaven as well. A brother, Earl Cole of Oxford, PA on this earth still dwells. Maudie worked at King's Dept. Store for many years, and holds those co-workers ever so dear. An extremely talented seamstress she happened to be, which helped to keep three teacher daughters dressed you see. Pine Ridge in Thomasville has been Maudie's home for the last three years, and her family was pleased with their loving care. Maudie would travel to other rest homes to sing her hymns, and would stand up at her country church to sing on a whim. She was nurtured and cared for by Debra Craft many a day. Debra could get Maudie to do things in her own gentle way. To say that our mother was a great one would be an understatement for sure. In her lifetime many troubles and tribulations she had to endure. Mother could neither offer fame or wealth indeed, but rather gave a lifetime filled with love and that's all we did need. Mother's love was a wonderful thing to behold, so she never had to take it away from one person to give to another, though. There was more than enough love to go around, and in our hearts that unconditional love will always be found. Even though fate has decreed that we give her up, love and nurturing certainly filled our cup. So we are not sad that our mother has gone, but that the earth she lived on was our earthly home. And that our love for her we had shown. Now it is in Heaven she does belong. Tears over her departure? Nay, a smile, that we had her for such a long while. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, April 27 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Elder E.W. Hooven, Pastor Chris Byrne and the Rev. Chris Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon, two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rita Taylor Scholarship of the Retired School Personnel Scholarship Fund, 3550 Stimpson Drive, Pfafftown, NC 27040.
