Mattie Taylor

Mattie Lee Hemric Taylor, 89, passed from this life, Friday, January 12, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center.

She was born March 1, 1928 in Yadkin County, North Carolina to the late Walter and Jettie Chappell Hemric. Mattie was a devoted member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church for most of her life. Declining health had prevented her from attending the last couple of years. Mattie was an extremely talented lady who devoted her time and talents to many groups within her church and community. She created so many wonderful things for church, family and local organizations. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to make chicken pies, volunteer at Crisis Control Ministries or knit baby blankets for newborns. She was well known for her handmade Moravian Stars in her church and community. Her many creations brought joy to so many people and those creations will continue to bring joy with her memory. She truly believed in keeping her hands busy. She was passionate about her family and her church. She was happy to share her political views with anyone who would listen. Mattie was an avid supporter of the missionaries through her church. She was a missionary in her own right with her dedication to volunteering her time and talents to make her community a better place to live. Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jack Taylor and her daughter, Vicky Taylor Miller, brothers, Paul and Raymond Hemric, and sisters, Doris Fine, Betty Solomon and Ruth Oregar.

Mattie is survived by her sisters, Shirley Winters (Albert) and LaVonda Boston and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 19, 2018 at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Reverend Joe Moore and Ms. Claudia "Clyde" Manning officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Philadelphia Moravian Church.
