Mattie Nelson Litaker

KERNERSVILLE- Mattie Nelson Litaker, 100, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2011 at her home. Mattie was born July 1, 1911 in Meadows, NC, at the foot of Sauratown Mountain to the late Jim and Arena Nelson. The family moved to Walkertown - Kernersville area when she was 11. Mattie was a very supportive mother and friend and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her family was her life. She was always interested in everything her family was doing. Mattie met and married Dennis Litaker in 1932. They had a short 37 years together until cancer claimed him in 1969. In addition to her parents and husband, Mattie was preceded in death by a daughter, Annie Culler and sons, Henry, J.C. and Richard. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Moser (Jerry) of East Bend; three sons, Billy Litaker (Faye) of Wilson, Preston Joel Litaker, of the home and Joel Wayne Litaker (Robin) of Wallburg; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Elder E.W. Hooven officiating. Entombment will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 5, 2011, at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank all that were involved in her care. Drs. Leo & Charles Record gave her much care and comfort for many years.
