Mattie Hampton Katz

Mrs. Mattie Carolyn Hampton Katz, 72, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Stokes Co. on February 8, 1943 the daughter of the late Hobert Alva Hampton and Mattie Merita Tuttle Hampton. Mrs. Katz was a member of Union Gospel Baptist Church in Germanton. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law and friend who will be missed deeply by all who knew her. Mrs. Katz is survived by five daughters; Becky Katz, Kay Katz, Debbie Saxon (Robby), Tammy Katz-Cataudella and Ruth ""Muffin"" Hahn, three sons; Billy Ray Smith, Jimmy Gray Smith (Pam) and Timmy Smith (Julie), 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two sisters; Susie Loflin (Gary) and Robin Whitt, a brother; Richard Hampton (Pat) and several nieces, nephews and extended family. Mrs. Katz is also survived by her ex-husband and friend, Ron Katz and her loving dog, Bear. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2015 at Union Gospel Baptist Church in Germanton with Rev. Darrell Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 prior to the service at the church.
