Mattie Louise Burton

Mattie Louise Burton, age 81 of Kernersville, NC went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, March 18, 2014. She was born July 31, 1932 in Surry County, NC to the late Columbus and Sarah Berrier Payne.

In her early career Mrs. Burton worked for Hanes Hosiery. She was a longtime member of Gospel Light Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son Mark Burton; two daughters Deborah Goode and husband Alton, Lynn Clinard and husband Bill; Grandchildren Stephanie Martin, Sara Burton, Heather Davis and husband Darren, Chrystal Tilley and husband Tommy, Michael Shelton and wife Nikki and Chad Clinard; eight great grandchildren; sisters Helen Gibson, Mary Spencer and Mildred Overby. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ernest; two brothers and five sisters.

The family would like to thank a special friend, Fern Stone for her selfless acts of kindness as well as the care givers Doris Smith, Julia Montgomery, Faye Fletcher, Jean Lampley, Linda Stafford, Nancy Sherbino, Stephanie Martin and Linda Carroll for their love and support during mothers' illness. Everyone made it possible for Mrs. Burton to remain in her home during her illness.

A Funeral Service will be offered at 2:00 PM Thursday at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Frank Shumate officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Forsyth County at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
