Mr. Matthew Whisenhunt, 29, of Winston-Salem, passed away on June 7, 2016. Matthew was born on January 20, 1987, in Forsyth County to Marcus Lee Whisenhunt and Judy Hanes Whisenhunt. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Phyllis and Frank Whisenhunt and Jean and John Hanes. Matt leaves behind Colton Whisenhunt-his beautiful son, and Colton's mother, Angelena. He also leaves behind his mother and his brother, Aaron Whisenhunt and wife, Tabitha; and two nieces, Jessica and Naomi. Matt was loved more than any words here can describe by his family mentioned above, as well as many friends and neighbors that aren't listed. Matthew played baseball at South Little League as a young boy. His interests soon turned to racing dirt bikes in the NC, SC, and VA area. When he grew older, Matt enjoyed a racing career that lasted several years at Bowman Gray Stadium. He was an excellent metal fabricator and taught his brother, Aaron, as well as others, many skills in a metal shop. He helped friends and family with many projects from building trailers to building engines. Matt loved hunting, fishing, and everything associated with the outdoor sports. He enjoyed repairing and customizing rifles and pistols. Matt will be greatly missed by his friends and family, and the lessons he taught and memories he gave to them will be carried with them for the rest of their lives. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
