Matthew Keene

Mr. Matthew Wayne Keene, 39, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 18, 2018 at his home. He was born in Abington, VA on January 11, 1979 the son of Gerald Wayne Keene and Connie Day Keene. Matthew graduated from Whitewood High School in 1997 and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 2008. Matthew was a loving and dedicated “Papa” to Gavrie. He loved all sports, but especially Chicago Cubs Baseball and San Francisco 49ers Football. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vincent and Betty Day; his paternal grandparents, Grandpa and Grandma Keene; an uncle, Clarence Keene; and an aunt, Tammy Givens. Matthew is survived by his loving son, Gavrie Chisholm; his parents, Gerald and Connie Keene; four uncles, Randy Day (Susan), Greg Day (Diane), Andrew Day (Susan) and Larry Keene (Shirley); and two aunts, Wanda Compton and Connie Williamson. He is also survived by several cousins and special friends, Dr. Scott Vogler, Jonathan Gonzalez and Anthony “Bear” Compton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Kenny Heath officiating. Entombment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park Mausoleum in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
