Matthew Creighton Corriher

Matthew Creighton Corriher, 41, son of Nancy Hannah Corriher and the late A. Ray Corriher, Jr., passed away on May 30, 2014 after a prolonged illness. In addition to his parents, Matthew leaves a sister, Caroline Corriher Stresemann, and her husband Douglas of Raleigh, and a very special aunt, Carol Corriher Walker of Montrose, Michigan. Matthew was born on September 10, 1972. Matthew leaves behind many wonderful friends and workers from the UMAR Clingman Home, where he lived for eleven years, and from the Enrichment Center, where he spent 19 happy and productive years. There he met two special people, Stacy Wingate, his sweetheart of 20 years, and Sam Runge his loyal worker and dear friend, who worked with Matthew at the Clingman Home and the Enrichment Center. Since his first hospitalization in 2012, Matthew was blessed to have a devoted worker James Maxie, who brightened his every day and was a very devoted friend. Matthew graduated from South Park High School in 1993, and has kept in contact with many of his friends and classmates during the 21 past years. He enjoyed singing in the Inner Rhythm
Choir for many years, and enjoyed his church life at Old Town Baptist Church where he was active in the Special Ministries Class. Matthew was baptized at Bethania Moravian Church and was an active member there prior to the beginning of the Special Ministries Class at Old Town. He maintained his friendships with the congregation at Bethania whom he loved. Matthew had a winning personality and had a profound influence on everyone he met. He never met a stranger, he never forgot a face or name of anyone who was genuinely interested in him. He memorized their birthdays and could always tell them what day their birthday would fall on every year. Matthew will be long remembered by all who called him a friend. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to: The Enrichment Center, 1003 S. Marshall Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, where the lives of many special people in Winston-Salem will be enriched.
