Winston-Salem- Mr. Mathlan Iverson Lumley, Jr., 84, passed away August 19, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 28, 1926 in Forsyth County to the late Mathlan Iverson Lumley, Sr. and Lillian Miller Lumley. Mr. Lumley was a lifelong member of Calvary Moravian Church and was a member of The Sons of Confederate Veterans. He graduated from Lewisville School and entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and was a member of the occupying forces in Japan. Mr. Lumley married Nancy Louise Frye on November 22, 1950 and they had one child, Martha Dianne. He was employed with M.I. Lumley & Son Construction and later retired as Utilities Supervisor for the City of Winston-Salem. He enjoyed Traveling, Fishing, Wii golf, and the Gateway YWCA. He was very resourceful with his talent that he could repair anything. Mr. Lumley was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy Louise Frye Lumley and a sister, Linda L. Bryant. He is survived by a daughter, Martha Rothrock and husband Dennis; a granddaughter, Nancy Hutchens and husband Tyson; a great-granddaughter, Gracelyn Dyanne Hutchens; a brother, Robert Lumley and wife Nancy of Florida. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with the Rt. Rev. Lane A. Sapp and the Rev. Dallas W. Prestwood officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
