Lexington1SG Mathew Lawrence Nagel, 44, passed away April 6, 2013 at WFBMC. He was born October 19, 1968 in Buffalo, NY. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Matt retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service as an FA/1SG. He was Commander of the VFW in Arcadia and currently was a JROTC Instructor at Parkland High School. Matt was a very loving husband, father and friend. Surviving is his wife of 23 years, Rhonda Nagel; three sons, Matthew, Jonathan, and Christopher; mother-in-law, Judy Mitchell; brother-in-law, Preston Mitchell and family; sister-in-law, Julie Ford and family; mother, Sande and Walser Hicks; brother, Brett Nagel and family; sister, Tammy Nagel and family; brother, Randy Nagel and family; sister, Corrine Macemore and family; brother, Chris Nagel and family and sister, Emily Shuff and family. A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, April 12, 2013 at Winston-Salem First with Rev. Brian Beverly officiating. Burial will be held 1:00 PM Friday at Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Pallbearers will be the U.S. Army Recruiting Command Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the 1st Sergeant Mathew Nagel Memorial Fund, Inc.
