Mary Lee Delp

Mary Lee Mitchell Delp, 101, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Brookridge Retirement Community. Mary Lee was born in Newton County, GA on February 14, 1920 to the late Robert Lee Mitchell and Ruby Henry Mitchell. She attended Livingston High School in Georgia, graduating in 1937 with a perfect attendance record. Mary Lee moved to Charlotte, NC when she was 18 years old and attended Guyer Business School where she met her husband, Boyd Delp. Boyd and Mary Lee were married on November 25, 1945. They moved into their family home in 1950, where Mary Lee would live for the next 71 years, up until the last six months of her life.  Mary Lee was employed as an experienced Administrative Assistant with different companies throughout her adult life, including Porterdale Mill, Morris Field Army Airforce Base (during WWII) and Rulane Gas Company for 13 years. Mary Lee and her husband Boyd attended First United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school (ladies’ class and children’s department) and Bible school for many years. She was a longtime member of the Women’s Guild group at her church and served as president and circle leader of the group. She also enjoyed attending craft class for many years and was a member of her church until she passed away. Mary Lee was an excellent cook and baker. She was diligent about sending cards to family and friends over the years, never missing a birthday, holiday or special occasion. Most of all, she was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Boyd Delp; sister, Charlotte Dillard; and four infant brothers. Surviving family includes her daughter, Patricia Evans and husband Sammy; grandchildren, Lauren Timmons and husband Ian and Lindsay Evans; great-grandchildren (Mary Lee’s pride and joy), Ella Rae and Emrie Rose Timmons; one sister, Beth Bruce; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, with Rev. Christa Warise and Rev. Wayne Linville officiating. A time of visitation will immediately follow the service in the mausoleum chapel.
