Mary Jones Hege

Mrs. Mary Jones Hege, 82, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  Mary was born in Forsyth County on October 5, 1939, to the late John Lee Jones and Mary Clemetine Hicks Jones.  Mary had a love for music and began playing the organ at the age of 15 at Bethesda Moravian Church.  She joined the right hand of fellowship at New Philadelphia Moravian Church in 1956, where she served as the organist for 60 years.  Mary was involved in many aspects of the Women’s Fellowship at the church.  She also served as organist for Trinity United Methodist Church and was employed as the church secretary until retirement.  Mary was the founder and director of The Morning Glories, a music ministry that provided fellowship throughout the community.  She was well respected in the music community and worked with numerous local musicians.  In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Foy Joseph “Joe” Hege, Sr. and one sister, Peggy Moser.  She is survived by her two children, Carol Stigall (Michael) and Foy Joseph “Jody” Hege, Jr. (Wanda); two grandchildren, John Michael Stigall and Sarah Stigall Moore (Ronnie); one sister, Erline Wright; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Baity; and numerous nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with The Rt. Rev. Sam Gray officiating.  Interment will follow in the church graveyard.  The family will receive friends from 2:15 pm until 2:45 pm prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Moravian Music Foundation, Inc., 457 Church St. S, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.  Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Hege.
