Mary Lou Jones White

Mary Lou Jones White, 91, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011. She was born August 23, 1920 to Martha Poindexter Jones and Joe Henry Jones in Dobson, NC where she was raised on her father's tobacco farm. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Davis C. White; three sisters, Lorie J. Russell of Charlotte, Creola J. Slaydon of Kernersville, and Frances J. Adams of Dobson. Surviving are one son, Timothy J. White of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Brooke White Burrow and Matthew of Lexington; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. White was a longtime member of Immanuel Moravian Church where she served as treasurer and a choir member for 25 years, and a member of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church until her death. She retired from First Union National Bank in 1985 after 30 years of service as a banker. She enjoyed camping, sewing, and traveling. Despite her agricultural upbringing, she adamantly disliked tobacco farming. Her witty sense of humor made her many friends, especially in the last years of her life at Homestead Hills Assisted Living where her quick comebacks would leave many with only laughter as a response. Her love of family, friends, and the Lord Jesus Christ will forever remain in the hearts of all with whom she came in contact. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19 at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church with the Rev. John D. Rights and the Rev. Bill Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to thank Dr. Andreas Runheim and the staff of Salem Neurological Center as well as the staff and physicians at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their steadfast and compassionate care up until the very end. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Konnoak Hills Moravian Church, 3401 Konnoak Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
