Mary Nuckles Westmoreland

COLFAX - Mary Lee Nuckles Westmoreland, 94, passed away Friday April 17, 2015 at Hospice Home of High Point, achieving her life-long dream, as she is now ""in Glory"".

Mary was born on August 24, 1920 in Guilford County. She was one of 15 children born to James Lewis and Alma Long Nuckles. During her working years, Mary was an employee of Mock, Judson & Proximity Print Works in Greensboro. She was a life-long member of Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax, where she and her late husband, ""Boot"" shared their ministry of music. Mary played the piano at Smith Grove for over 40 years. Unless they were on vacation or unable to attend due to sickness, you could find the very dedicated two-some, Mary and Boot (who was the Choir Leader) together at church leading the morning and evening worship music. When the daughters were younger, the family traveled with local evangelist, Rev. D. W. Long and provided music for many revival services. After retirement, Mary's life revolved around music and her growing family.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence ""Boot"" Westmoreland; and 13 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Becky Marshall (Dale) and Jo Beeson (Ron); 3 grandsons, Jeff Little (Sheri), Bryan Beeson (BJ) and Randy Beeson (Belinda); 2 great grandchildren, Alyssa and Nick Little; 1 step great grandchild, Mandi and husband Blake; 3 step great-great grandchildren, Kayla, Casey and Kaleb; 1 brother Billy Nuckles ( Gale); and many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Smith Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
