Mary Watkins

Mrs. Mary Ann Sloan Watkins of Clemmons, 79, passed away Thursday March 3, 2022. She was born in Forsyth County on September 9, 1942, to the late Lester and Mary Friesland Sloan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers; Johnny Sloan, James Sloan, and Ray Sloan. Mary Ann worked in Research and Development for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and retired with 36 years of service. She loved to cook, spending time at the beach, as well as going shopping and finding a great sale. Over the years, Mary Ann spent time with her husband, Tommy, traveling to many car shows as members of “Heart of Carolina Street Rodders”. Above all the other things, Mary Ann was an awesome wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Watkins; a son, Kirt Watkins (Marcine); a daughter, Lori Eckenrode (Billy); granddaughters, Madison Brewer (Justin) and Meredith Poplin (Cody); grandsons, Sloan Watkins and Griffin Watkins; three great grandchildren, Wyatt Poplin, Kennedy Poplin, and Barrett Poplin; one sister, Sarah Doby; as well as a brother, Jack Sloan. A Funeral Service will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Craddock officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Yadkin Valley Baptist Church, 1324 Yadkin Valley Rd., Advance, NC 27006.
